51 000 m2 solar thermal growth in 2001. At the end of 2001 more than
51.000 square meters solar thermal installations was realised. Spain now counts
a total of 445.445 square meters solar thermal collectors, approximately 10% more
than the year before. Andalucia is a self-governing municipality which
boasts the largest surface of solar thermal panels in Spain. With 140.000 square
meters it is way ahead of runner-up Balearic Islands (74.000 square meters) and
the Canary Islands, with over 71.000 square meters, according to a study done
end 2001 by the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDEA). Extremadura,
for it's part, has a surface of 2.849 square meters, which represents an increase
of 13,3% to the year 2000, when the total amount was 2.514. Cantabry, on
the contrary, is the municipality to have the least amount of solar thermal surface,
with only 388 square meters. It takes position at the end of the list of all municipalities
in the Basque Country, which is with a total of 2.015 square meters, also one
of the last provinces in the overall list of solar thermal surface in use. More.
